Spotlight on the Future of Corporate Information

Founded back in the 1660s by a group of leading scientists, the Society's fellows include 21st century luminaries such as Tim Berners-Lee and Stephen Hawking. The Royal Society works to support excellence in science, making it a fitting venue for Content Workflow 2015. Putting the spotlight on the future of corporate information, this event, organised by Reprints Desk, focused on case studies, trends and best practices in scientific, technical and medical (STM) information management and research workflows.

Prior to the event I was able to interview several of the speakers: Copyright Licensing AgencyEduserv, and ProQuest/Pi2 to find out more about their views on key trends and developments facing the biopharma industry.

Other speakers included Beacon Technology Partners who provided practical guidance on getting best results from market research. Reprints Desk presented a case study on streamlining workflows, along with a demo of their Article Galaxy widget which sits on top of a variety of websites and databases and allows users to instantly see prices of document delivery or whether the user's organisation already owns the item. My article, "Improving Content Workflow in Biopharma", explores these talks.

Lenerl Sharp, licensing business development manager at Springer, spoke about the integration of Springer and Nature. The new brand "Springer Nature" launched at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair and makes the organisation one of the Top 5 scientific, medical and technical publishers with 13,000 staff in 50 countries. We'll be interviewing Springer to find out more about the amalgamation, as well as new and developing publishing models affecting the research lifecycle, such as evolving access and delivery options.
