Abstract

Are you up to speed with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), an EU initiative impacting on data privacy across Europe and coming into force on 25th May?

Item

Everyone's talking about GDPR. Are you ready and prepared for the new EU data privacy regulations?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is an EU initiative impacting on data privacy across Europe.

In the UK it will replace the UK Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) from 25th May this year (2018). This means the rules for how organisations handle their customers' information are changing - and as an information professional you need to be ready

You may be aware that this new regulation is not a "one-off" consent update - GDPR means you need to regularly assess how you contact your clients. And client consent needs to be specific, separate from the normal signing off of T&Cs.

Are you ready?

Jinfo understands the changes may seem overwhelming, so our article based on Katharine Schopflin's recent talk about GDPR is a helpful insight into the new regulation.

Much of what you'll need to know is covered in the article, such as:

  • What is personal data?
  • How can you use it?
