Source Expertise - What It Means in a Google WorldJinfo's Research Focus, "Source Expertise - What It Means in a Google World", has touched on the development of the role of information professionals in the organisation in various ways:

  • Shimrit Janes touched on another facet of the information professional's role in the article "Getting More Value from Your Query Handling Services". She also explored why it's important to learn to say "no" in her article on the key findings of a recent Community session held as part of this Research Focus and why developing the maturity of your case assignment practice is often showing to be challenging.
  • When it comes to the role of the information professional, the question of whether or not to specialise often comes up. The article by Carole Schwalbaum is a rare hands-on example of how this is handled in management consultancy A.T. Kearney.

Webinars and Community Sessions

The topic of specialisation was also discussed in the webinar "Balancing 'Generalist' and 'Specialist' Expertise" which was held recently (available for Subscribers to view). During this webinar Jinfo's director of research, Robin Neidorf, presented some very useful and hands-on tools to work with and evaluate the level of specialisation relevant and possible in your research organisation.
